Analysis and Design of Web-Based Information Systems

We focus on analysis and design of Web-based information systems, and Intranets in particular. The number of Intranets have been growing dramatically recently and most corporations have some version of it. Unfortunately, planning, design, and implementation have been ad-hoc in most instances. Complicating the situation has been the growing number of Extranets (allowing access to the Intranet by suppliers and other business partners), and the need to link and integrate Intranets with public Web sites and other resources. Consequently, design methodologies and guidelines are needed to facilitate this complex task. We emphasize the need to link business requirement with the physical design, and provides guidelines for doing that.
Instructor bios:
Arie Segev is a professor at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, and Director of the Fisher Center for Information Technology and Management. He also has an affiliate position with the Computer Science Research and Development Department of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has published over 70 papers in leading journals and conferences, in areas related to data management, distributed database design, and business and technology issues in electronic commerce. He is an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Knowledge & Data Engineering, Information Systems Research, and INFORMS Journal of Computing.
Kenji Takahashi is a Senior Software Engineer at NTT Multimedia Communications Laboratories. Dr. Takahashi has more than 10 years of R&D experience in the areas of analysis and design of software and hypermedia. He has published many technical papers and made presentations at international technical conferences. He is a co-chair of the CommerceNet Collaboration Tools SIG.
