User Interface Design

With the explosive growth in the number of WWW sites, users have so much choice that they do not waste time on sites that are poorly structured, confusing to navigate, difficult to understand, or unattractive. This tutorial will help you avoid these user interface problems and will teach a series of simple methods that can be used to increase the usability of a Web design without negative impact on development schedules. The Web is experiencing drastic changes in nature on an annual basis. Based on a review of previous years' trends for the Web, the seminar will furthermore enable you to meet the current need for websites to establish closer relationships with their users and prepare you to use advanced user interface technologies to take the Web to the next level of enhanced interaction and information management.

Instructor bio:

Dr. Jakob Nielsen is a Distinguished Engineer and the head of the Advanced Web Technology project in SunSoft's Strategic Technology Department. He was usability lead for the 1995 and 1996 redesign of Sun's internal Web (SunWeb), and has contributed to user interfaces for several other WWW projects as well as pre-web hypertexts and online services. A WebWeek editorial called Dr. Nielsen "among the Web's most recognized human interface experts."
