WWW94: multilingual information exchange through the web

this session described a method of exchanging multilingual information through the web using a multi-localization enhancement of the NCSA mosaic client.

the goal of this project was to overcome the limitation of most of the current WWW software which support only the Latin-1 character set. the presented extensions include:

• on the fly choice of the appropriate character set
• automatic code detection based on ISO 2022 character sets
• ability to display bi-directional languages
• implementation of a "preferred language" feature

the explanations of the author were followed by an impressive and interesting demonstration.
