various speakers presented different extensions to both, the HTML definitions
and the HTTP protocol.
- a review of the HTML+ document format
(due to technical problems, this speech was re-scheduled to the last day
of the conference, but from its subject it belongs into this stream)
this talk discussed the extensions to the HTML definitions which would
lead to the proposed HTML+ standard. this will include things like tables,
text wrapping around pictures, mathematical equations and much more.
- dynamic rewriting of HTML documents
in this talk a method was described that would allow the server to suggest
a number of links to the reader that he or she might want to follow
depending on his or her preferences.
directory services and WWW integration using SOLO
this session presented at SOLO/WWW gateway to provide directory
- the microcosm link service and its
application to the web
during this session, the microcosm approach was presented and how this
model could be combined with the capabilities of the web.
- World Wide Web proxies
the speaker presented a very interesting solution to the problem:
how can people behind a firewall access the web and what else can
a proxy server do for them ?
- a scalable HTTP server
this was a presentation about how multiple identically configured HTTP
servers can improve the overall performance.
- using the web to provide private information
this session presented a interesting way to provide private, password
protected information on the web without modifying the client software.
- a caching relay for WWW
this was a very interesting discussion about caching on the web and its
pros and cons. it also presented surprising numbers and diagrams about
how many pages are how often accessed on a WWW server !
